The Doctoral Department of the VDA (Vilnius Academy of Arts) invites you to a consultation-seminar for those interested in practice-based programmes. It will take place on Tuesday, February 24th at 17:00 Vilnius time (UTC+02). Google-Meet link.
IMPORTANT!
For the second year running, applications for doctoral programs in Architecture, Fine Arts, and Design will be accepted earlier than usual, from March 18 to 20, 2026. To make it easier for you to prepare your applications, the admission process will consist of two stages. As always, the doctoral studies will start on 1 October. More at the vda.lt website.
The Doctorate in Art in Lithuania (and the VDA) is now 16 years old, and we are still wondering about it or asking undergraduate level questions. It's time to take a dose of vitamins again. This seminar will introduce you to the main issues of artistic research, dispel myths and help you decide whether you are on your way to a PhD in art or whether it is better to continue freely as an artist, designer or architect. We will discuss together what kind of knowledge are you creating and do you want to give away your episteme and methodologies? You will also find out what the requirements are for admission to a PhD in art. More about Doctorate in the Arts.
Before attending, we recommend reading at least a few of ours and colleagues publications to get a better understanding of our vocabulary and values:
- Elo, Mika. Ecologies of Artistic Research Practice, 2019
- Varto, Juha. Artistic Research. What is it? Who does it and why? Aalto university, 2018;
