22° G: State

On September 1-27, 2025, a series of three exhibitions united by the title 22° G is presented at Vilnius Academy of Arts’ Titanikas exhibition halls and the Akademija and 5 malūnai galleries.

The 22° G exhibitions are dedicated to the 220th anniversary of Vilnius Academy of Arts’ Department of Graphic Art and present three generations of artists active in the contemporary art and graphic art scene. The authors featured in the exhibitions include prolific artists of the younger generation who are alumni of the Department of Graphic Art, artists who educate the new generations of graphic artists as tutors at the department, and young artists studying at Vilnius Academy of Arts who associate their professional future with graphic art.

The exhibition on the 2nd floor of the Titanikas exhibition halls, 22° G: State, presents works by the alumni of the VAA Department of Graphic Art.
Opening on September 1 at 6 pm.

The exhibition title 22° G: State conceptually encodes the years of activity of the Department of Graphic Arts and simultaneously the influence of the specific air temperature of 22° C on a human being, as it is most comfortable for both mental and physical work. In the context of the exhibition, the numerical and symbolic cipher of 22° G signifies the comfortable condition of being a graphic artist, feeling good about having chosen one’s authentic expression, which is shaped equally by the traditions and values of graphic art, the movement, change and trends of contemporary art, and the personal experiences, achievements, discoveries and artistic decisions of each author. For many, graphic art entails a distinctive dynamic definition of its expressive means – graphic art can assume the form of drawing, line, print, book and illustration, video recording, photography or installation. In terms of expression, graphic art seems boundless and difficult to pigeonhole, encompassing vast possibilities of artistic language. Through exploration and experimentation, graphic artists constantly discover original themes, avenues of activity and unique forms that expand and enrich the conventional understanding of graphic art as a creative discipline. The 22° G: State exhibition presents authors who employ the principles of graphic art and contemporary visual art to rethink the essence and nature of printmaking, using drawing elements, texts, typographic signs, objects, video, installation and other tools, effectively creating graphic (and not only) art that is relevant today, shaping its interdisciplinary face and defining the prospects of graphic art to come.
