Personal exhibition "FIVE AND ONE PIETA"
2025 01 30 – 03 05
VDA Gallery„5 malūnai“
I present two painting cycles in my exhibition – “Five and one Pieta” and “Tanks are also humans”, also installation named “Fly catcher”. At first glance, these are completely different parts of the same exhibition, but when they are next to each other in the common space, they merge into one idea of the closeness of war, man and art. Trying to describe the essence of the exhibition in a few words would probably be the best to use your imagination. Because imagination is an important element of art perception, especially useful when visiting exhibitions or experiencing direct contact with a work of art. So, I suggest imagining the following image: in the middle of a mined field stands a metal Pieta made from wrecked tank waste and she holds a large artillery shell in her hands. The lightly rusted sun shines high in the sky. A black cloud of flies swirls around.
If you noticed, when presenting this exhibition, I mentioned the word imagination several times, but who would we be without creativity and imagination? Only moving jackstrows, like rubbles...

I was born in 1970 in Raseiniai, but I grew up in Kaišiadorys. I graduated from the Bachelor of Paintig studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2000. Immediately after that, I had to go to Ireland. I spent eleven years there. After returning to Lithuania, I rediscovered painting and the creative opportunities it offers. Over time, I realized that I like to mix different techniques in one work. Therefore, I combined painting, collage and assemblage into one form of expression. In my paintings, collage figures are like theater actors on stage. The painting part performs the function of scenography, and the clippings from magazines act and play the plot. The creative process sometimes starts with an idea and moves towards the realization of the image and sometimes the process is the reverse, but I think both ways are good.
