"The selected artworks include works on paper and Artist's books created specifically for this exhibition. The prints depicting bird migration feature Lithuania's national bird, the white stork, and its migration route to South and Central Africa. The inserted archival digital prints are historical maps of Lithuania dating from the 17th century to the 1970s. Special thanks to Dr. Mindaugas Dagys, head of the Bird Ecology Laboratory at the Nature Center, for access to his Movebank cartographic images related to the white stork tracking project. The cartographic images are presented in various forms in graphic prints and the Artist's books. In addition, the exhibition features selected books and works on paper by the artist, reflecting my work process," said Prof. Timothy Frerichs.
Prof. Timothy Frerichs has been a professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia for many years. There he teaches book art, "Artist's book," and printmaking. In 2023, he was nominated for the title of Distinguished Professor.
For Prof. Timothy Frerichs as a creator, the idea and concept of an "Artist's book" is very important, but so is the implementation of that concept, its realization using different materials and objects found in nature. In his prints, he combines different printing techniques, drawing, and collage, transforming all of this into a spatial art installation. He is a highly educated and cultured artist who has held many solo exhibitions and received international awards and scholarships. His artworks are included in collections in both America and Europe.
Prof. Timothy Frerichs has participated in the Erasmus+ program in Europe and America on several occasions. In 2023, he gave a lecture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and held a creative workshop on artist's books entitled "Material as Content: An Artist's Book."
Prof. Timothy Frerichs is coming to Lithuania with his personal exhibition. The artist's books and print installations on the theme of "Migration" will be on display for two weeks at the Vilnius Academy of Arts gallery "Akademija". This is a great opportunity for students, the academic community, and the public not only to see the exhibition, but also to meet the artist Prof. Timothy Frerichs.
