Loreta Švaikauskienė is one of the best-known Lithuanian artists working in the field of contemporary textile and design. In 2014 she received an Individual State Stipend for Art and Culture Creators of the Republic of Lithuania. Over the past ten years L. Švaikauskienė by combining different textile techniques (stuffing, sewing, embroidery) has created remarkable size and visually appealing works, the effects of which are enhanced by a unique artistic technique – material manipulations. The artist creates textile objects using synthetic material that gives the impression of metal or porcelain. The ornaments of Old Egyptian, Renaissance, Baroque and Romantic periods in highly stylized textile panels or mirror frames elevate a functional object created for an interior towards an artwork of conceptual contemplation – art historian and critic, dr. Virginija Vitkienė
L. Švaikauskienė’s works are often exhibited in various exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad (Finland, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Portugal). Also, in 2014 the textile artist held a solo show at “Index 2014” interior and design fair in Dubai, UAE. In 2016 her work “The Seasons. The Spring’s Joys” received the main prize at the 7th Textile Biennial “Textile for Body and Soul” (“Arka” gallery, Vilnius).
A significant part of L. Švaikauskienė’s works are included in private and public interiors. The artist is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and organizational committee of “Kaunas Biennial”.
