Archaeologist
Research interests: prehistoric art; ancient pottery: potters, recipes and technological choices.
Researcher at the Institute of Art Research of Vilnius Academy of Arts. 2004 Master's degree in Archaeology, Faculty of History, Vilnius University. 2005–2022 Doctoral studies at Vilnius University, History and Archaeology. In 2023 defended doctoral thesis “Neolithic Communities and their Pottery in Southeastern Lithuania”.
Research interests include interdisciplinary studies of Late Stone Age heritage, especially pottery. She combines ethnographic data, landscape and natural environment research, experimental archaeology and materials science in her analysis of ancient pottery production technologies and recipes. In collaboration with specialists in physics, chemistry, geosciences, ceramists and museologists, she develops methodological recommendations for chemical, mineralogical, microstructural and textural studies of pottery. She takes part in initiatives to present ancient pottery to the public, experimental archaeology activities and organises educational activities.
In 2019–2020, the project “Discovering the Stone Age Pottery of Southern Lithuania” was carried out under the grant of the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
In 2022, in cooperation with the National Museum of Lithuania and the Public Institution "Vilniaus Puodžių Cechas", activities on experimental moulding of Stone Age pots and restoration of authentic replicas were conducted. The replicas of Stone Age pots and the process of their firing were exhibited in the courtyard of the National Museum of Lithuania during the European Archaeology Days in the summer of 2023.
PROJECTS
Coordinator and member of the editorial board of 16 volumes of “Archaeological Research in Lithuania” for 2006–2020. Editor (together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. G. Zabiela and Z. Baubonis) of publication "Archaeological Investigations in Independent Lithuania (1990-2010)" (2012), which presents the most important archaeological investigations; and “A Hundred Years of Archaeological Discoveries in Lithuania” (2016), which covers all regions and periods of Lithuania from the earliest times to the present.
