RULES
The Rules for Exhibitions Held in the "Titanikas" Exhibition Halls (hereinafter – the Halls) of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (hereinafter – the Academy) (hereinafter – the Rules) establish the procedure for drawing up the annual exhibition plan, organizing, and exhibiting works in the Halls.
The Halls (Maironio St. 3, LT-01124 Vilnius) host exhibitions of Academy faculty, students, graduates, and Bachelor's and Master's graduation theses; exhibitions by artists, collections from the Academy and other museums, as well as art, design, architecture, photography, and media art exhibitions from Lithuania and abroad. They also host workshops, lectures, conferences, and other artistic and cultural events that align with the goals and functions of the Academy.
Exhibitions in the Halls are organized in compliance with the Statute of the Academy, resolutions of the Senate and the Rector, the regulations of the Academy Museum, and these Rules.
Annual Exhibition Plan
Exhibitions in the Halls are held in accordance with a scheduled annual (calendar) exhibition plan. To organize an exhibition, its organizer (an Academy department, creative union, art or educational institution, other institutions, creators, etc.), curator, or the exhibition's author must submit an application to the Academy Museum (Maironio St. 6, LT-01124 Vilnius; email: titanikas@vda.lt). Applications for the upcoming calendar year are submitted when the VAA "Titanikas" exhibition halls announce a call for exhibition proposals, usually in October.
The application must include:
The title, content, and nature of the exhibition (up to 150 words);
The individual or institution responsible for organizing or curating the exhibition, along with their contact details;
The scope of the exhibition (participants, approximate number of works), the required exhibition space (1st or 2nd-floor halls), and the preferred duration of the exhibition;
The technical tools and equipment intended for use in the exhibition;
The sponsors and partners of the exhibition (if any).
It is recommended to attach visual materials (photos, videos, presentations, or other media) reflecting the content and nature of the exhibition via email. The applicant notes in the application that they have read and familiarized themselves with these Rules for exhibitions held in the Halls.
Rates
For exhibitors who are not VAA faculty, doctoral students, students, or alumni (within 2 years after graduation), weekly utility fee rates for the use of "Titanikas" apply (upon passing the application selection phase):
1st-floor hall – €500 / week + VAT
2nd-floor hall – €500 / week + VAT
An hourly rate of €200 / 1 hour + VAT applies to commercial events.
If alternative exhibition spaces are selected, the rates are recalculated accordingly. Exhibition organizers who have been granted the right to hold an exhibition shall pay the utility fees according to the invoice issued by the Academy. The Museum determines the visiting hours and internal regulations of the Halls.
The Council
The Council of the Academy Museum (hereinafter – the Council), operating under the Council Regulations approved by the Rector of the Academy, participates in the review of applications and the compilation of annual exhibition plans in an advisory capacity. The Museum Council consists of representatives from the Academy's departments and units, as well as members of public institutions and organizations.
The Council meeting to review applications takes place within 10 calendar days from the end of the application submission period. The Council considers all exhibition applications submitted on time. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The Council also reserves the right not to consider applications that do not meet the requirements specified in these rules. Based on the exhibitions selected by the Council, the Academy Museum compiles the annual exhibition plan.
Organizers and/or curators of the selected exhibitions are informed about their inclusion in the plan. In case of unforeseen circumstances, the Academy Museum reserves the right to adjust the annual exhibition plan and schedules. The Museum shall inform the exhibition organizer (or curator), the Academy's Vice-Rector for Art, and the Chair of the Council about such changes in advance. Decisions of the Council regarding exhibitions not included in the annual plan are not subject to comment.
Preparation, Display, and Safety of Exhibitions
Exhibitions are held in the VAA "Titanikas" exhibition halls. The organizer or curator of the exhibition is responsible for the timely submission of the artworks and all required informational materials about the exhibition to the Academy Museum. Exhibitions are accepted for display upon submission of a list of works (catalog data) signed by the exhibition organizer or curator. The Museum and the exhibition organizer (curator) sign an official handover-acceptance certificate for the artworks.
The exhibition organizer or curator is responsible for the equipment necessary for the operation of the exhibition.
Upon completion of the exhibition, the organizer, curator, or authors must collect the artworks from the Halls no later than five working days after the closing of the exhibition. The Museum is not responsible for works not collected on time. Artworks submitted for the exhibition must be properly prepared for display. Works that lack the necessary mounting/hanging components, are not matted (paspartu), or are otherwise technically unfit or physically defective will not be accepted for exhibition. The Academy Museum also reserves the right to refuse works that may pose a technical risk during display.
The Academy Museum is responsible for the care and safety of the exhibition works from the time of their acceptance until the collection time specified in the Rules. In the event of a missing artwork or physical damage occurring during the exhibition, action is taken in accordance with the procedure established in clause 11.3.7 of the Regulations of the Academy Museum. Equipment and technical tools belonging to both the Museum and the organizer (curator) may be used to exhibit the works.
During installation, organizers are strictly prohibited from using mounting or labeling materials that could leave significant physical defects on the walls of the Halls or the inventory used. Exhibitions included in the annual plan may be canceled at the initiative of their organizer (or curator, author). The Academy Museum must be informed of this no later than three months prior to the scheduled opening date of the exhibition. Organizers (or curators, authors) who fail to inform the Academy Museum in time about a canceled exhibition will lose the right to organize another exhibition in the Halls for two years.
Final Provisions
The exhibition application is kept at the Academy Museum until the closing date of the scheduled exhibition. These rules may be amended or updated in compliance with the procedure established by the Statute of the Academy.
