Natalija Čaiko won a special prize of the Association of Lithuanian Printing Industries Awards 2020

Graphic design department 3rd year student NATALIJA ČAIKO won a special prize of the Association of Lithuanian Printing Industries Awards in students category “For innovative decisions for Printing Industries  2019” with her academic project “Kivalina”. Project “Kivalina” (tutor prof. Audrius Klimas) presents climate change and migration problem through community of Inuit. Because of the rising sea level in Alaska, an inevitable climate changes occur, affecting local traditions of Inuits. Natalija in her project made paper and electronic publications, showing information in an interactive way. Readers have a possibility to compare changes of temperatures in Alaska, to watch videos and interviews with the local people. 

 


Graduate students won the final prizes in the Global Graphis New Talent Annual 2020 Awards

Congratulations to the graduate students Saulė Kašėtaitė and Aurelija Slapšytė, whose diploma works won the final prizes in the Global Graphis New Talent Annual 2020 Awards.
Saulė Kašėtaitė diploma work, Speculative design project "The utopia of plant" (supervisor lect. M. Žalneravičius, 2019) has won a gold award in the ADVERTISING category.
Plant Utopia is a speculative design project revealing the vision of the future, in which nature will be replaced by perfected plant hybrids of our creation. The line between the nature world and high technology disappears. Humans take on the role of God and create new life forms from organic and mechanical materials.
Aurelija Slapšytė's diploma work for the Typographic project “Endangered Dunes” (supervisor prof. A. Lisauskienė, 2019) has won Honorable Mention Design Type Fonts in A-Z category.
The Endangered Dunes project is a journey trough slowly disintegrating dunes in Curonian Spit. During the project a special font was created which is just like the nature of Curonian spit is slowly disintegrating. Carefully created 122 versions of font are slowly disappearing while trying to download it. A responsible person’s choice can lead to longevity of the font as well as the conscious behaviour while visiting the unique cultural landscape of the Curonian Spit. 

 


Open History: Designing the Communication of Historical Knowledge Through The Web by Giorgio Ruggeri 2020

Giorgio Ruggeri’s book – published by Vilnius Academy of Arts Press – explores emerging practices within the field of Digital History aimed to exploit the World Wide Web as a space for supplementing, expanding, and challenging the communication of historical knowledge. Issues concerning data access, visualisation and interactive narration are addressed through a mapping of cutting-edge history websites. The analyses, conducted through the lens of visual communication design, suggest the need for enhanced collaborations between historians and visual communication designers.
Giorgio Ruggeri (Italy, 1991) is a communication designer and history scholar, working at the studio Code Control in Milan. He studied design at ISIA Urbino, Hochschule Düsseldorf - HSD and Vilnius Academy of Arts. Currently, he is attending a Master’s in Public History at Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli/ Università degli Studi di Milano.


Vestina Petrauskaitė at the Global Grad Show 2019

Vestina Petrauskaitė, a graduate student in Visual Communications Design, has been selected to represent Lithuania and Vilnius Academy of Arts at the Global Grad Show, a social innovation event held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Vestina presented her master's thesis "Gamified mobility impairment simulation project "Kitonas" for public empathy increase. Virtual reality simulation" to the international design community. Work supervisor prof. Aušra Lisauskienė.

 


Our students won Creative Communication Award 2019

Graphic design department student's Dovilė Kačerauskaitė and Diana Molytė final ethnocultural project “On the tip of the tongue" (supervisor: prof. Aušra Lisauskienė, 2019) won Creative Communication Award 2019 competition in two categories: best branding design and best food packaging.

On the tip of a tongue” encourages to rediscover ethnocultural regions of Lithuania. A game about regional dialects and culinary heritage make up a system where food tasting becomes a part of cultural cognitive game. Ethnocultural regions are introduced by different dialects, traditional holidays and national cuisine. Customers are free to choose which of the desserts and how many they want to include in the game.

 


Rasa Jančiauskaitė created visual identity of Bologna Children book fair 2020

The October 18th was very important for Lithuania – Rasa Jančiauskaitė, our  graduate student (Study program Visual Communication design), graphic designer and illustrator created The new visual identity  of Bologna Children’s book fair 2020. This is the first time a graphic designer and illustrator from Lithuania has been invited for such an important creative task. The organizers of the Bologna Children's Book Fair say, that they had no doubt, that Rasa Jančiauskaitė will make a major leap forward in international children's book publishing.

Saulė Kašėtaitė won Young Designer Prize

Congratulations to Saulė Kašėtaitė, the 4th year student, which final project,  Conceptual project „The utopia of plants“ (work supervisor lect. Marius Žalneravičius, 2019) won the Best Young Designer 2019 award in the category of communication design.

Vestina Petrauskaitė won Young Designer Prize

Congratulations to Vestina Petrauskaitė, the Master degree student, which final project "Gamified mobility impairment simulation project "Kitonas" for public empathy increase" (work supervisor prof. Aušra Lisauskienė, 2019) won the Best Young Designer 2019 award Public prize in the category of design research and theory.
Vestina about the project:
"The simulation project in virtual reality "Kitonas", through positive personal experience, allows us to shape and consolidate the right public attitudes towards people with disabilities. When hearing the voice of a disabled person, physically and emotionally empathizing with a disability it creates a fictitious common experience that later increases and changes the public's perception of the emotions and needs of people moving in a wheelchair."

 


Laurynas Kamarauskas won the poster competition

The 2nd year Master of Visual Communication Design Laurynas Kamarauskas has won the 1st prize in the poster competition "Neither bitter, nor sweet". "Neither bitter, nor sweet" poster contest on copyright topic was for young designers up to 35 years old. The title of the project is Lithuanian phraseologism, meaning as needed, as it should be. The idea of the project is to educate the public, especially young creators, on the subject of copyright, to develop respect for intellectual property and intolerance to its illegal use. We are proud of Laurynas' professional victory and wish for all the success!

 


Students poster will be a part of an international poster exhibition

CONGRATULATION to our students Evelina Germanovič, Dovilė Kačerauskaitė, Toma Kanytė and Simas Kisielius. Their poster "How to Walk" (Tutors assc. prof. Robertas Jucaitis and lect. Marius Žalneravičius) will be a part of an international poster exhibition "The Future Heritage of Today"!


Rasa Jančiauskaitė  awarded the diploma for the created illustrations!

Graduate Master of Visual Communication Design Rasa Jančiauskaitė is actively involved in professional events and exhibitions. The latest achievement of Rasa is illustration of Marius Marcinkevičius book „Maži eilėraščiai mažiems“. As a young and promising illustrator, Rasa Jančiauskaitė participates in the IVth Book Art Exhibition, where the illustrations created for M. Marcinkevičius' book were awarded with a special diploma from the Vilnius Graphic Center gallery "Kairė - dešinė". Congratulations to Rasa, we are happy together with her!

 


Elena Motiejūnaitė published her own book "Ačija"

Elena Motiejūnaitė, BA 2nd year student created and published her own book for children „Ačija“
We are delighted with the professional success of the talented 2nd year student Elena Motiejūnaitė! During the study course "Text and Illustration" an interactive book for children “Ačija" (tutors prof. Aušra Lisauskienė and lecturer Martyna Bikulčiūtė) have been created and published by a publishing house. Elena is not only an illustrator, but also the author of the book! You can find the book in all of the bookstores of Lithuania!

 


Rasa Jančiauskaitė won Gold Award 

Visual Communication Design graduate Rasa Jančiauskaitė (graduated in 2017) won the Ermis Awards 2017 Gold Award for her illustrations, created for the internship at Bob studio (Athens, Greece). We are happy with the victory of Rasa and wish her further success.

Ignas Miškinis created visual identity

IGNAS MIŠKINIS, BA 2nd year student created SIKON’s visual identity. SIKON (Student Ideas Competition) is an outbound three-day workshop where students of creative specialties together with professionals of these fields present their ideas, discuss and actively participate in the process of architectural culture development.


Emilis Jonaitis won competition

BA 1st year student EMILIS JONAITIS won the social partners of the Israeli Embassy in Lithuania competition for creation of the logo "Lithuania 100 / Israel 70", dedicated to commemorating the anniversaries of independence of both countries.

 


EDMUNDAS JANKAUSKAS awarded the Red Dot Design Award

Master of the Visual communication design EDMUNDAS JANKAUSKAS was awarded the Red Dot Design Award for the best design concept! For the competition Edmundas submitted his master degree final project "LIFI" (Supervisor, assoc. prof., art lic., Robertas Jucaitis, 2017). Red Dot Design Award - a well-known, prestigious design contest dating from the 1950s. It is one of the most competitive and memorable competitions, attracting the most participants applications in the world. A win in the competition is considered one of the highest designer performance awards.

 


Agnė Žiūkaitė published football magazine "Sveiks Valio"

We are pleased with the successful implementation of the Graphic design bachelor studies graduate AGNĖ ŽIŪKAITĖ project, which was published by the football culture representing magazine "SVEIKS VALIO". Football in the years of studies was a great passion of Agnė, along with the graphic design, and, after combining both interests, we have not only informative but also a nicely read design work.

 


Modesta Žemgulytė won Young Designer Prize competition

Congratulations to Modesta Žemgulytė, the 4th year student, which final thesis, a personal project "Objects + Stories" (work supervisor lect. Marius Žalneravičius, 2018) won the Best Young Designer 2018 award in the category of communication design.

 


Zigmas Vagonis won 3rd place in GOOD DESIGN COMPETITION

Congratulations to GDD student, master of Visual Communication Design ZIGMAS VAGONIS, who won the 3rd place in GOOD DESIGN COMPETITION for the "Twelve-month schedule"


Winners of the „Vilniaus duona“ „Agota“ packaging design project

The winners of the "Vilniaus duona" "Agota" packaging design have been announced. On occasion of the opening of the "Design Week" in VAA, GDD 3rd year students , who have won in the GDD and "Vilniaus duona" cooperation project (leader - Marius Žalneravičius) by developing "Agota" bread package were awarded on May 11th.
The winners elected - Saulė Kašėnaitė (I place.), Jurga Kybartaitė (II place.), Artūras Lavruvjanec (III place). 
The Project category manager of the "Vilniaus duona" Asta Navikaitė awarded the winners with great designer prizes - iPad tablets.

 


EDMUNDAS JANKAUSKAS won Silver award!

We are pleased with the success of the master graduate EDMUNDAS JANKAUSKAS and congratulate him on winning the silver award in the A' Design Award & Competition contest(sustainable products category). For the competition Edmundas presented his master's final work "Active ecological package. The product LIFI." (tutor assoc. prof. Robert Jucaitis, 2017). Furthermore, the project is also participating in the Red Dot competition, where it has undergone an initial inspection in the category of "green" projects and will now be presented to the final commission. The results will be published at the end of June.


RASA JANČIAUSKAITĖ won 1st place in the international Sharjah Exhibition for Children's Book Illustration contest!

Congratulations to our master graduate RASA JANČIAUSKAITĖ for winning the 1st place in the international Sharjah Exhibition for Children's Book Illustration contest! For the international competition Rasa presented Visual Communications master's final work "Summa" (tutor prof. Aušra Lisauskienė, 2017).

 


Film "Shine" by GEDIMINAS ŠIAULYS

We are delighted with the short film "Shine" ("Šviesa") created by the master student of Visual Communication Design GEDIMINAS ŠIAULYS! Everyone is invited to the premiere of the film on March 16, 18:00 at the "Vingis" cinema Hall 1.
According to Gediminas (the author of the script and director of the film), the film was created for the centennial of Lithuania.


IEVA KRIKŠTAPONYTĖ has won a postage stamp competition!

Congratulations to 3rd year student IEVA KRIKŠTAPONYTĖ who has won a postage stamp competition "Lithuanian National Minorities and Communities. The Tartars", published by Lithuanian Post. Ieva tells, that she decided to participate in the competition in order to test her abilities to create an interesting and high quality postage stamp design.


Work Calendar by student IGNAS MIŠKINIS

The 2nd year student's IGNAS MIŠKINIS study assignment "Work Calendar" was issued in cooperation with Plungė municipality as a city-presenting souvenir. We are pleased with the success of the student for practically realizing his study assignment (tutor Marius Žalneravičius, 2017) and publishing 300 pieces of the calendar.

 


Film "Running lights" by student GEDIMINAS ŠIAULYS

The animation film "Running Lights" by Visual communications design Master student GEDIMINAS ŠIAULYS has been evaluated in prestigious Lithuanian and foreign competitions!  The warm story of the never-ending life and death cycle has gained recognition both in Lithuania and around the world. This extremely professional work has won few international competitions and in Lithuania the film has earned two Silver Cranes!

 
 

Student Monika Vosyliūtė won at Anniversary Hacker Games: Vilnius

Congratulations to the 3rd year student of the Graphic Design Department MONIKA VOSYLIŪTĖ, who at "Anniversary Hacker Games: Vilnius" won the 3rd place for the application, that she developed. Monika's application allows you to listen to favorite songs, playlists, TED conversations, subscribed channels from your Youtube account, all apart from visual content. The application works both on phone and computer.


Student Laurynas Kamarauskas won Lithuanian Printers Association Award "The Best Graduate Young Specialist Work 2017"

Congratulations to student Laurynas Kamarauskas for earning the honorable Lithuanian Printers Association Award "The Best Graduate Young Specialist Work 2017". Laurynas has submitted his final bachelor's thesis project for the competition. The awards ceremony was held at the State Cognitive Center of the Presidency of the Republic of Lithuania.


Student's Gabrielė Ugnė Petrauskaitė project was presented in Paris Design Week

Our graduate student’s GABRIELĖ UGNĖ PETRAUSKAITĖ project "The Scarfs Telling Tales" (work supervisor prof. Aušra Lisauskienė (2016)) was presented at the exhibition center of "Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design" in Paris during the Design Week in September.
Gabrielė Ugnė together with the other 15 young Lithuanian designers took part in the exhibition cycle "Design Lithuania". The project was organized by the association “Design Forum” together with the Cultural Attaché in Paris.


GDD student UGNĖ BALČIŪNAITĖ received a nomination of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Antanas Smetona! 

The nominee scholarships of the Presidents of the Republic of Lithuania are awarded to talented, especially distinguished, scholarly and artistic students of state higher education institutions. They are appointed annually by the Minister of Education and Science.


GDD students take part in the international "London Pop-Up Illustration" project

Students of the Graphic Design Department (GDD) take part in the joint international project "UK & Baltics London Book Fair 2018 London Pop-Up Illustration". The group consisting of the GDD and the Graphic Arts Department (10 students) carries out the international project activities in several stages.In the first phase of the project in March and May of 2017, two creative workshops were held with arriving artist Emily Hughes (UK). Students created picture books.
In the second phase of the project, 100 pcs will be issued of each participant's book (publisher - VAA publishing house). The results of the project will be displayed at the London Book Fair in 2008, presenting student books and the entire creative exposition.


GDD student Diana Molytė illustrated the book "How the dog and the whale saved Vilnius"

We are delighted with the professional rating of the talented 2nd year student Diana Molytė! During the study course "Text and Illustration", an interactive book for children "How the dog and the whale rescued Vilnius" (Tutors prof. Aušra Lisauskienė and lecturer Martyna Bikulčiūtė) have been created and will be published by a publishing house. Together with the author of the book, writer Evelina Daciūtė we are delighted with great illustrations and are eagerly awaiting until an interactive book reaches all bookstores.

 

GDD bachelor graduate Milda Šiulytė won the contest "Young Designer Award 2017"

Graphic Design Department bachelor graduate Milda Šiulytė in the contest "Young Designer Award 2017" was announced the best communication designer for 2017. For the competition Milda submitted her bachelor's degree thesis, a social communication project “Thoughts and reflections ease”.

GDD bachelor graduate Greta Janutytė won the audience award in the contest "Young Designer Award 2017"

Graphic Design Department bachelor graduate Greta Janutytė in communication design category was awarded the audience prize in the contest "Young Designer Award 2017". For the competition Greta submitted her bachelor's degree thesis, a social project – installation "Help Reflex”.

We are glad for our Graphic design graduate, currently Visual Communication design student's Gabrielė Ugnė Petrauskaitė victory in competition held by Ministry of Culture "National costume year logo". Gabrielė Ugnė won the first place and her logo has been implemented. Gabrielė’s Ugnė’s supervisor prof. Audrius Klimas, 2017.

Graphic Design Department graduates gain the widest range of professional skills after studies, which enables them to engage in creative activities.
GDD graduates AUGUSTINAS PAUKŠTĖ and DOMAS MIKŠYS (graduated in 2015 and 2016) are actively working in the field of visual communication.
Augustinas and Domas international victories list became even bigger with the latest success – a victory  in  A'DESIGN AWARDS competition  with project Nomad Apparel Identity Design, in Graphics and Visual Communication Design Category, 2016 - 2017.

  


Our 3rd years students created packaging for the brand "MILTĖ"

We are pleased with the success of the project "Birzų duona”, where our 3rd year students created packaging for the brand “MILTĖ”.  From the 16 final design works only the best 3 were selected.
First place and a real implementation of the package went to DOMANTĖ NALIVAIKAITĖ - “For the original visual solution and the right product advantages distinguished". Second place went to URTĖ RAMŠAITĖ – “For the innovative visual solution", the third place went to BEATA TAPUTYTĖ - “For the excellence in illustration”. Newspaper “Verslo žinios” wrote an article about the successful implementation of the project.


Laima Kavaliauskaitė significant professional victory!

Graphic Design Department graduates gain the widest range of professional skills after studies, which enables them to engage in creative activities.
GDD graduate LAIMA KAVALIAUSKAITĖ (graduated in 2015) is actively working in the field of photography. Laima’s international victories list became even bigger with the latest success – a victory with 2 photographs in I AM PHOTOGRAPHER CONTEST 2017 competition. Photo "Cut the braid" has been awarded "The Best Photograph of Groups" first place award. The photograph "The Nest" took second place in the same "The Best Photograph of Groups" category. Congratulations!


Rasa Jančiauskaitė significant professional victory!

We are proud of our graduate student RASA JANČIAUSKAITĖ significant professional victory! At the contest of illustrated books for children #CLAIRVOYANTS2016 RASA’s  "Plastic travel" illustrated book project will be presented at the post-competition exhibition in May 2017.

At the contest of illustrated books for children #CLAIRVOYANTS2016 RASA’s project "Signs of silence" was nominated for the main Warsaw publishing house “Dwie Siostry" prize, which is a book release!!! Moreover, RASA’s project also earned an honorable mention of the jury of this international competition.


Vilnius graphic design department graduate Rasa Jančiauskaitė illustrated educational film exercises

Graphic Design Bachelor graduate Rasa Jančiauskaitė, currently studying in Visual Communications Design Master Program, illustrated educational film exercises for children under the French animation show "What owl has whispered”. The show is currently shown in the cinema center SKALVIJA. This is one of the first projects, implemented by the talented young illustrator projects, that we are proud of! Congratulations to Rasa.

Our Graphic Design Department bachelor graduate (2016) Gintarė Ribikauskaitė had an interview with the most distinguished packaging design site The Dieline. We are very proud, because this is the first time when The Dieline takes an interview from Lithuanian designer!


Vilnius graphic design department student Monika Vosyliūtė won a special prize for the created robot

Graphic Design Department 3rd year student MONIKA VOSYLIŪTĖ participated in the Science Hack Day event, which was held in Technarium hackerspace. She and her team has won a special prize for the created robot. The robot is a replica from the well-known computer game Portal. We rejoice the achievement!


Vilnius graphic design department student Juta Kibildytė won Post postcard competition

Congratulations to Graphic Design 2nd year student JUTA KIBILDYTĖ who won Lithuanian Post postcard competition for Lithuanian Independence Day.
The postcard created has stylized one of the most important Lithuanian state symbols – double, or so called king Jogaila cross.

Vilnius graphic design department student Ineta Plytnikienė won the A'DESIGN AWARD & COMPETITION with her final project Rawiu Frozen Foods, in Packaging Design Category, 2015 - 2016.

NSPIRATION:
The main inspiration came from a rich Lithuanian nature: colours, shapes, textures. Also, propagating a healthy, ecologic lifestyle.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
It was reaching for the brand to reveal the centenarian Lithuanian traditions of using wild plants in cookery. This kind of product is being packed into boxes: this is a new, undiscovered item. An exceptional view and suggestion to appreciate more and use treasures of the nature.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The design of packaging should capture client’s eye. Taking account for that the packaging is being put into freezers. Natural nature colours give an impression of an ecological, healthy product. The illustrations that were created for the project precisely reflect the appearance of the plant and purposely create an image of a product of quality. The information which is on the packaging is given in that way so that the segments would be separated clearly and visually capture the attention to a useful information (for example, vitamins that are in this plant, dishes that they could be used in.)


Vilnius graphic design department student Modesta Žemgulytė – finalist at International Poster Competition

MODESTA ŽEMGYLYTĖ is at the International Poster Competition "Poster for tomorrow” - "Right to healthcare" finalists' list. She is on the 14th place at TOP 100. At the competition participated 4980 designers.

Vilnius graphic design department student Laima Kavaliauskaitė won the BALTIC PHOTO CONTEST competition!

Upon receipt of the main "The Best Portrait Photograph 2015” award, she brought home four awards more:

"In my works I try to add a bit of mystery, mysticism, especially when photographing women and human relations. Women's inner world is very rich, emotive. It is therefore not correct to capture only what the eyes see - it is neither the purpose nor the right "- Laima presents her works.

  


A project “Link Menų” implemented by GDD student Violeta Mackialo

Graphic Design department 1-year student Violeta Mackialo won real estate companies “EIKA” tender for temporary art spaces establishment.  A team gathered by Violeta of Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts in conjunction with representatives of contemporary art and the company “Eika” opened a unique temporary art gallery "Link Menų” in the old medical aid station in Vilnius on Žalgirio street.
In different areas of the building participants were invited to experience the temporary art form when artists occupies ready to demolish buildings and turns them into works of art. This form of art is very popular in the world's largest cities - New York, London, Paris, Berlin and others.
Everyone who comes to the old medical aid station in Vilnius was able to become an active artistic movement participant. Project objective was to gather a large pool of young, innovative, principled people in the community, which will live regardless of the fate of the building.

  


Graphic design department student Mindaugas Dudėnas created new logo for the Design Week event

In February, 2nd year students of the Graphic Design Department (GDD) department under the direction of the department teachers took on the task - to create a new jubilee Design Week logo. Project developers are GDD social partners - Lithuanian Design Forum.
Logo by Mindaugas Dūdėnas received most of the sympathy and became the new design of the week mark. It displays minimal graphics and wood motif with inherent creative designer tool - a pencil. Baltic ethnos can be well seen in the logo, so it easily distinguishes Lithuanian Design week from other countries in similar events.
