The international exhibition of contemporary art “Searching for identity (at the time of selfie)” will open at the gallery “Akademija” of Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA). During the opening of the exhibition there will also be a performance by musician Giovanni Floreani and actress Daniela Gattorno.

It is an interdisciplinary project that aims to reveal the transformations of the concept of identity in times of modern political, social, national, technological and psychological changes. The curators of the exhibition, Gabriela Cardazzo and Giuliana Carbi, requested that artists offer their works on this compelling, evolving topic.

The exhibition features contemporary artists with different experiences and different forms of expression, whose work reveals identity in a variety of ways – from the classical concept of identity, self-analysis to the latest technological and performative experiments.

The exhibition features film director Samir Mehanović (Bosnia-United Kingdom); visual artist Marijana Vukić (Croatia); photographer Patrick Faigenbaum, video artists Erick Deroost and Katja Fleig (France); performance artist Marc Camille Chaimowicz (France-United Kingdom); actors Luigi Arpini, Daniela Gattorno, composer Claudio Ambrosini, musician Giovanni Floreani, performance artist Remo Rostagno, video artist Manuel Frara/interno 3, visual artists Cristiano Berti, Diego Esposito, Giulia Iacolutti, Cristiana Moldi Ravenna, Mario Sillani Djerrahian, Sonia Squillaci, Gian Carlo Venuto (Italy); performance artist Laure Keyrouz (Lebanon); visual artists Małgorzata Dmitruk and Leon Tarasewicz, theatre performers Andrzej and Teresa Wełmiński (Poland); Lada Nakonechna (Ukraine); visual artist Ian McKeever (United Kingdom).

The first presentation of the project took place at the centre for contemporary art Trieste Contemporanea in January- February 2019. The exhibition was accompanied by a cycle of various events – discussions, performances, musical presentations.

On the eve of the opening of the exhibition, on Tuesday, September 21st, 6 p.m. at the Gothic Hall of VAA the Lithuanian vocal ensemble B2 will perform the “Soliloquy” by composer Claudio Ambrosini.
