On Saturday, the sculpture "Taškas" was unveiled in Kaunas, dedicated to commemorating the only Lithuanian letter "ė" in the world.
The 3-meter-diameter mirror sculpture built in Kaunas' student square and made of stainless steel was designed and implemented by the head of the VDA Kaunas faculty program "3D art objects: glass, sculpture, ceramics", sculptor Assoc. Tad Vosylius. The artistic installation depicts 15 Lithuanian words with the letter "ė" - homeland, freedom, love, happiness, honor, glory, etc.
More than 20 Lithuanian artists gave ideas to give meaning to the letter Ė, who presented over 40 ideas for different sculptures to the public. The idea of sculptor Tadas Vosyliaus was chosen by a vote of Lithuanian residents and a competent commission for evaluating artists' works, including sculptors Arūnas Sakalauskas, Stasys Žirgulis, architect Jonas Audejaitis, journalist Edmundas Jakilaitis and others, the public's vote was equated to the voice of one of the nine members of the commission.
The "Ė, come back" initiative invites everyone to look back at the uniqueness of the Lithuanian language, to bring it back as it really is - with dots and checkmarks. This is exactly what the new sculpture means.
The Lithuanian alphabet has 32 letters, but the only one is so special. It was used for the first time in 1653. In the first Lithuanian grammar compiled by Danielus Klein. It is the only letter that has no analogues in any other language of the world. Technology often seems to rub a dot in the fast rhythm of written language, but we hear it in speech. Therefore, the sculpture is a symbolic reminder not to forget the dots and ticks of all Lithuanian letters, because this is what creates the uniqueness of our language. Simplicity is the whole secret - the idea of the sculpture "Dot" showed how much one simple dot can change and mean. After all, sometimes, forgetting to put it on, the whole meaning of a word or sentence can change. And at the same time, this idea gave a symbolic meaning - it "helped" another unique point of attraction in the city of Kaunas.
An art installation donated to Lithuania by "ACME Group" is intended to remind us of something we often don't think about. Technology speeds up many processes, in a hurry we often forget to put the necessary ticks or dots on the letters. With this sculpture "Dot" we want to remind you how much one simple dot can change and mean. After all, sometimes forgetting to put it on can change the whole meaning of the sentence. We want this sculpture in the city center to be like a reminder to every Lithuanian resident that by following the path of technology and innovation, we can do it without losing our originality - after all, that's why we are interesting to the whole world," he says.
