The established connection with Assoc. Prof. PHD Dimitra Kanellopoulou materialized into creative workshops and discussions with students at the VAA Kaunas Faculty!

The creative workshops, which began on April 15, 2024, aimed to provide first to third-year architecture students with a unique opportunity to gain a different perspective on Western European architecture, which increasingly focuses on dialogue with society and communities. Throughout the years, this approach has led to the development of inclusive architectural practices and technologies applied in contemporary urban development strategies. The visit of Assoc. Prof. PHD Dimitra Kanellopoulou significantly contributes to meeting the increasing need for insights into contemporary urban planning, public space design, and participatory design in the field of architecture and spatial development.

Assoc. Prof. PHD Dimitra Kanellopoulou also revealed the research directions being pursued at the research centers of Politecnico di Milano and Ecole Nationale Supérieure to the students.

During the creative workshops, students not only attended lectures but also engaged in city tours, which allowed them to better understand the importance of theoretical knowledge and to seek creative solutions through consistent practical discussions.

Different yet significant architectural aspects were highlighted during each lecture:

  • Design challenges in public spaces.
  • Mobility patterns and the phenomenon of strolling.
  • Urbanization of Kaunas city (city tour).
  • Architectural power and language through social and cultural symbols.
  • Narratives of architectural structures in space.

These creative workshops unveiled new avenues and creative directions in architectural research for students, while further strengthening the faculty's ties with the study center at Ecole Nationale Supérieure.
