Barbora Gediminaitė | Schemes 29/9/2020 – 10/10/2020
Schemes are reflections on Islamic architectural contexts actualized within the doctoral artistic research at Vilnius Academy of Arts – sketches of ritual space construction. The artistic research discloses the fluidity of Islamic space and it is the prayer carpet that becomes the sociocultural code to reveal the meanings of human body, architecture, geography. The gallery spaces communicate layers of prayer carpet spacialities. Ritual purity, gender segregation and mode of life spatialities are schematically unveiling the narrative of cultural mistake.
With a background of Textile Art and Design education as well as Islamic Studies currently Barbora Gediminaitė is working on her doctoral project at Vilnius Academy of Arts with a major focus on Islamic spatialities particularly Qajar Persia architectural interiors and ayaneh kari – mirrorwork. Most of the time she is employing ethnographic field work methodology while conducting her practice led research.
Opening of the exhibition 29th of September, 2020 (Tuesday) at 6pm at VAA gallery Artifex, Gaono st. 1, Vilnius
