Ugnė Upė Pilitauskaitė | RED

“…I will never know how you see red and you will never know how I see it. But this separation of consciousness is recognized only after a failure of communication, and our first movement is to believe in an undivided being between us.…”

To love redly, hate redly, fear redly, search redly and hunger redly.

RED – the echoes of a personal search of a point of neutrality, imbued with the horror of the current events and the desire to find a safe refuge of inner peace.

The paintings shown in the exhibition merge with sculptures, the collected objects from nature intertwine with the details of the city and things that are supposed to soothe – turn into anxiety inducing marks and forms. The artworks, created to get rid of these feelings, absorb them and turn into a sort of a map/dairy.

The works presented in the exhibition are connected through artefacts collected by the presumed character. A creature, whose footprints soak into the ground red.

Ugnė Upė Pilitauskaitė is a world exploring being hailing from Samogitia, living in Vilnius. In 2022, she graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with a degree in Graphic Arts (Illustration). Currently she is pursuing her Master's degree in Sculpture. Her work explores the existence of mythology in the 21st century, the relation between the city and nature, fused with anxiety, fear and control.
