Vilnius Academy of Arts (hereinafter - VAA) Kaunas Faculty of Architecture Department students and their lecturers head of department Rimantas Giedraitis, prof. Jonas Audejaitis visited Grenoble, France last week. The purpose of the stay is inter-university cooperation and the joint project "Kaunas and Grenoble - architectural signs of the 21st century. What's next?', which aims to present the culture of Kaunas and promote the knowledge of Lithuanian culture by revealing the peculiarities of the architecture of the Lithuanian city to a wide public of Grenoble: architects, designers, historians, scientists, the young generation, and to design visions of the cities of the future. The aim is to develop the academy's international cooperation and further integrate Lithuanian higher education into the European university space.

"The Department of Architecture of the Kaunas Faculty of VAA started conducting joint studies with one of the strongest French higher schools of architecture, École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble, this is already an achievement of the academy and proof that Lithuanian higher education is integrated into European academic life. Throughout the semester, Lithuanian and French students will conduct their studies jointly deciding the development prospects of Grenoble and Kaunas, and together they will evaluate the obtained results, which are planned to be presented to the public in the fall", said the dean of the VAA Kaunas Faculty, prof. Jonas Audejaitis.

It is true that this is the first trip of the project participants, already next week guests from France, Grenoble National School of Architecture (University of Grenoble) are expected at the VAA Kaunas Faculty.

During the creative sessions, both in Kaunas and Grenoble, it is expected to strengthen the connection and present the cities' historical, social, urban, architectural development, ecological situation, current cultural and artistic achievements, the latest (21st century) development, future plans and visions, existing and anticipated problems and challenges. .

In Grenoble, Kaunas Faculty students, working together with Grenoble and South Korean Catholic Kwandong University students, visited the military fort in Bastille, later analyzed and reflected on the gathered information in a free visual form, presenting sketches and architectural visions.

The project "Kaunas and Grenoble - architectural signs of the 21st century. What's next?" is part of Lithuania's season in France.

The Lithuanian season in France is a program created in partnership between Lithuania and France, which will introduce the French public to modern Lithuania and its culture through various forms of culture and art, discussions and presentations. The project aims to initiate long-term cooperation between Lithuanian organizations and developers with French partners. The season program is united by the idea "The other is the same": an invitation to see yourself in the other through the project's activities in France. The program, which has brought together artists, thinkers and public figures, will cover a wide range of contemporary cultural phenomena, media and current topics, engage in creative pursuits and reflect on the past, present and possible future scenarios.
