On October 6 (Monday) at 5:00 PM, an open lecture by Gudrun Havsteen-Mikkelsen will take place in the VAA Titanikas building, F. Daukantas St. 112, organized by the Master’s program of the Department of Design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
Gudrun is a designer and visual journalist from Denmark, whose practice combines artistic research with journalistic methods, shaping a critical perspective on material culture and storytelling.
She holds a Master of Arts degree from the GEO-Design program at the Design Academy Eindhoven (2020–2022).
At the center of Gudrun’s research is the Arctic region: future scenarios of mineral extraction, the area’s geopolitical tensions, and the climate crisis. She explores the dynamics of these complex issues through films, publications, radio programs, maps, and sculptural objects. She teaches at the Iceland University of the Arts and is part of The Danish Arts Foundation’s elite program for young artists, The Young Artistic Elite.

In her lecture, Gudrun will discuss journalism, storytelling, and travel in design practice—particularly focusing on the Arctic region, its resource potential, and geopolitical tensions. During the event, there will be a screening of her film Promises for Business (25 min).
The lecture will be held in English. It is relevant to all those interested in geopolitics, the Arctic region, journalism, artistic research, and design.
