Design Innovation Centre of VAA

Design Innovation Centre of Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA) is a center of excellence established in 2007. The division provides commercialization, development and renewal of new products, incubation activities and also promotes design in society. Since 2016, Design Innovation Centre is responsible for the intellectual property created in the academy. In 2018, divisions were opened in VAA faculties in Kaunas, Klaipėda and Telšiai. In 2019, The State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania granted VAA Design Innovation Centre the status of a PATLIB centre.

What is Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA)?

Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA) is the oldest and largest university of arts in the Baltic States established in 1793. The Academy offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies in the fields of art, design, architecture and art history. Today the Academy has more than 1,500 students in four faculty locations – Vilnius, Kaunas, Telšiai and Klaipėda.

A centre of excellence is a team, shared facility or entity, which provides leadership, best practices, expertise, methodologies, research, support, and staff training.

What is a commercialization service?

Commercialization is the process of introducing a new product or production method into commerce—making it available on the market. In this process we can help with following competencies:

Commercialization cycle consultations. Consultations and assistance to the author: identification of an invention, selection of the most appropriate method of protection of an invention and commercialization possibilities and assistance in commercialization of an invention.

Project management. Commercial project management from initiation to closure.

Legal advice. Consultations on intellectual property rights, methods of protection of inventions and assistance in their implementation (patenting an invention, registering a design or trademark).

What is a new product and service development service?

We are ready to contribute to the generation of ideas as well as their detailing. If necessary, we can also provide required equipment to produce prototypes.

What is an incubation activity?

We pay close attention to the consulting of young researchers. Also, we provide art and design laboratory rental services. In the future, we plan to rent premises, where developers can set up their first offices.

What is a design promotion service?

We help to implement events, research, exhibitions, creative workshops or other ideas, which promote the development of design and its maturity in Lithuania.

What is the PATLIB centre?

Additionally, VAA Design Innovation Centre is a PATLIB (Patent Library) centre, which provides authors with all necessary information on intellectual property issues related to the protection of works, patents, designs and trademarks.

The activities of PATLIB centres in Lithuania are coordinated by the State Patent Bureau.
