Study programme annotation

The MA in Animation is based on practice-based moving image research. The future moving image artist will have the opportunity to make a film for two years while exploring the changing narrative that animation influences. The animation of matter, opened up by augmented reality tools and artificial intelligence, is also changing notions of life. The moving image is known through the recognition of life, and life, in its various forms, is recognised through the moving image. The programme therefore asks what the cinema of the future will look like, what forms the moving image will take in the common field of art and science, and proposes to explore the changing nature of film through both traditional and experimental means.

We emphasize moving image research and offer you several possible levels of research and creation:

• Theoretical approach. To delve into the junctions of living/non-living matter, to study the Animation phenomenon and processes unfolding there. Explore animation tools and time-based media technologies and create in motion picture format.

• Cinematic Art. To explore film culture, the changing forms of animation under the influence of new technologies.

• Relationship with Reality. To explore the relationship between animation and reality, the possibilities of documentary, the appeal of memory culture in film culture.

• Contemporary Art. Explore the culture of animation in contemporary art and create the animated moving image as an independent form of contemporary art language
