Urtė Lagunavičiūtė I Surface Tension
2021 04 30 - 05 31

The main idea of the exhibition was trying to reveal how water 'sees' the world around it and how a person feels experiencing this. Does such thing as water having a memory exist? Is our connection with water still encoded in its memory? The idea of personification of water was born to answer those questions. The connection between water and a person becomes the main aspect of the exhibition. Water becomes a character that shows the world around us.

In this exhibition, I want to point out the importance of lighting. A light reflection hitting a piece of glass starts imitating water.

Surface tension is the tendency of liquid surfaces to shrink into the minimum surface area possible. This tendency only occurs in a very thin layer of liquid. Due to this, in my exhibition pieces of glass start to overlap creating a water effect.

The exhibition is an image of a close connection between bodies of water that a person wouldn't be able to see with the naked eye. Every water molecule has been a part of an icecap, a river, an ocean, maybe even once belonged as a barrier between air and water.

The main reason I chose to illustrate water - I see a huge spectrum of many different thoughts and emotions in it. I find instability that reminds us of unknown paths of life or something that can't be controlled charming and intriguing.
