Rūta Šipalytė I Fragments
2020 10 26 - 11 23
After receiving the prestigious “Golden Pin” award from the Lithuanian Artists Union I was invited to hold a personal exhibition at the “Lauko Expo” outdoor gallery of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
I present a selection of my artworks created over the years in the symposiums and artistic residences both in Lithuania and abroad. Ceramic artworks are displayed in chronological order with uneven intervals. This mini retrospective includes a few pieces created during masters studies under prof. Juozas Adomonis. This is a way of connecting the exhibition in the space of the academy with the beginnings of my professional artistic journey.
I use a combination of graphic lines, dabs of colour, hollow openings and basic geometric shapes to convey the shapes of urban environments. I strive to capture momentary impressions and fleeting landscapes, contemplate the impact of urbanisation and technology on our daily routine, shift in the relationship between time and space, shrunken distances and morphing of the concept of home.
It's a wander on the paths of time, casting a fragmented glance at my work on the subject of cities that is one of my leading themes.
