On September 7-15th, 2025 an intensive course of the Nordplus KUNO network, “Textile Future Scenarios”, took place at the Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts. The course was hosted by the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts, together with the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA), the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen (KMD, UiB), and the Academy of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg (HDK).
The course brought together 23 students from various art schools across the Nordic and Baltic countries, along with six faculty members: Prof. Krista Leesi, Prof. Emma Linde, Lecturer Åsa Dybwad Norman, Prof. Tim Parry-Williams, Assoc. Prof. Monika Žaltauskaitė-Grašienė, and Assoc. Prof. Rita Kaupelienė. A distinguished guest, Dr. Marie O’Mahony from the Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton, joined as a keynote lecturer.
The aim of the course was to investigate emerging trends in textiles by integrating practical experimentation with theoretical inquiry. Participants were encouraged to reimagine the role of textiles within contemporary art and design practices, seeking innovative approaches through which this medium might contribute to meaningful artistic expression and open new perspectives.
In addition, the programme offered participants the opportunity to work within an international team, exploring the relationship between textile media, place, and learning environment. Throughout the intensive sessions, new creative scenarios were developed, highlighting the ways in which textiles can be applied within the context of contemporary art and design.
The course was funded within the framework of the Nordplus KUNO network.
