Liudvika Sonia Koort | The Fluid Body of a Beautiful Landscape
8/11–25/11/2022

Suddenly I find myself standing in between my own body and an earthly one, looking for a visual which can embody the synthesis of a body-landscape.
My process is a constant search for a visual language which can embody the interacting elements of human nature, such as emotions, physical sensations, intellect and the mystical origin. And how these human elements mingle with the natural ones, the surrounding landscapes, changing of the seasons and other transformations. Within the space of the artwork it appears through forms and figures, carnal lines are on the edge of becoming landscapes, feelings and desires emerge in between these vital scenes.
During the artistic act, drawings become sigils* dedicated to this particular chaos within a human body. These symbols speak about the pleasures and pains of being sensual. As if it is asking: why is it so arranged to have bodies if we are so relentlessly flowing?
These images don't provide us with answers, but become a visualization for the question raised.
The irrational part of the creative process is what guides me. The act of drawing is always made instinctively, without any preconceived image and evolves through constant interaction between spontaneous making and conscious directing of the line and form until it becomes transcended into an imagery.
Such a creative act allows me to name the problems of existential beings, not through the figurative, but through the level of abstract, minimalistic imagery. Like that I find there is a constant meaning-symbol or association within any form.
Seeing the visuals within the artworks that translate and mirror the natural forms of a human body and insides of it, the landscapes, anthropomorphic forms of animals, various symbols and archetypes coming from a collective subconscious mind, it reminds me I'm one with the universe. And in this feeling of closeness I explore topics such as sensuality, intuition and manifestation and how it all sinks into artwork, impacts and enchants us.

*  A sigil is a type of symbol used in magic. The term has usually referred to a type of pictorial signature of a deity or spirit. In modern usage, sigil refers to a symbolic representation of the practitioner's desired outcome.
