Martynas Arlauskas | gazing through else
2025 04 29 – 05 17
Opening: 2025 April 29th 6.00 pm.
The information in the space – another’s gaze, someone else’s eyes, another’s feelings.
I’ve met them. I don’t remember the situation precisely, but fragments return to me, and I help them settle into the pieces. Sometimes, the gaps fill themselves in (I’m sure – their talking hands were here).
An exhibition is a space that invites getting to know – the objects, references, and texts found here emerged while tracing stories. Repeating loops, knots, paths, beginnings and endings – hands wove it like a diary. Let’s meet – how much time do you devote to getting to know?
–To attempt to understand visual communication, – I repeat myself. – We’re all shaped from the same clay, carved from the same amber, ripened in the same earth. We may carry different traits, but there’s a reliable sense of closeness.
I turn toward the space of relationships, the field of communication – and there, I play the language. The steps of another are near – they wander: seeking connection, observing, thinking. One tells stories with their hands.
Exhibition includes a Lithuanian Sign Language translation of the exhibition annotation and insights into the creative process provided by the artist.
