On the 22nd-24th of March 2023, 2nd year Bachelor students of the Design study programme at Vilnius Faculty of Design, the Head of the Department of Design Šarūnas Šlektavičius, the coordinator Aurelija Džiugaitė and the Head of the Design Innovation Centre Audronė Drungilaitė embarked on a three-day study visit to the Baltic countries.

One of the main focus areas of the Design Department and Design Innovation Centre is collaboration with the aviation service company Magnetic MRO, as a result the primary purpose of the trip was to visit the aircraft maintenance base at Tallinn Airport. The students got first-hand experience of the specifics of the client company's operations and technical capabilities. This will help the VDA Design Department to continue the good practice of cooperation with business, integrating their needs into the study process.

On the way, the Art Academy of Latvia, the exhibition "Sneakers: Eco & Ego" at the Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine and the Estonian Academy of Arts were visited. The study visit to related higher education institutions and a look into their activities provided opportunities for comparison, evaluation and a possibility to transfer innovative ideas to VDA practice.

We say Lithuanian "ačiū":

·   Liene Jakobsone from the Art Academy of Latvia for the best hospitality and tour around well-curated “Sneakers: Eco & Ego” exhibition at the Pauls Stradiņš Medicine History Museum;

·   Eva Liisa Kubinyi from the Estonian Academy of Arts who kindly answered all the questions about design studies and made a tour around a brand new campus;

·   Rihards Priedkalns from Magnetic MRO who let the students enter the most secure places and explained a lot about plane maintenance procedures.

The trip was funded by the CIRRUS programme and the Design Department of Vilnius Faculty.
