The Sculpture Department of Vilnius Academy of Arts is pleased to announce an Artist Talk by Yan Xing on 15th of May 2018 at 11:00 am, at 102 aud., Vilnius Academy of Arts building C1, Malūnų g. 3This talk will be part of our ongoing series entitled Investigation Bureau, which brings together artists, researchers, and curators working today.

Yan Xing’s oeuvre is informed by a mix of art historical research, autobiographical narratives and aesthetic critique. Yan Xing plays with facts and speculations, manipulating the viewer’s experience with speculative strategies, using literary ploys in inventing heteronyms and imaginary protagonists, allowing viewers’ perception to take an equal part in the interpretation process and, on the other hand, presenting highly structured installations.

Students, faculty members and the general public will have opportunity to learn more about Yan Xing’s practice and take part in a Q&A session.

Yan Xing is known for his interdisciplinary projects which have built a complex, compelling body of work that reflects critically on how history is manufactured today. Yan Xing was born in Chongqing in 1986. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009. In 2012 Yan Xing won the Chinese Contemporary Art Award for Best Young Artist; that year, he also received a nomination for the Future Generation Art Prize from the Pinchuk Art Centre.

Yan Xing has exhibited and performed extensively at venues such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Rubell Family Collection, Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and Kadist Art Foundation.

Yan Xing has lectured at the University of the Arts Helsinki and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. In 2016–2017, he was a Visiting Artist in the Department of Sculpture of the Yale School of Art.

Yan Xing's latest solo exhibition opened last June at the Kunsthalle Basel.

This event is free and open to the public. Currently Yan Xing is a resident at Rupert.
