The BA study programme of Painting ensures sufficient quality and quantity of speciality and interuniversal humanitarian knowledge, enables students to orient themselves in the field of contemporary art and culture, gives them subject skills to use modern means of technology and communication, encourages attitudes of experimental search and critical thinking.
BA graduates are able to apply knowledge of art history, philosophy, culture in personal practice. Graduates gain knowledge and practice necessary for understanding specific basics of branches of painting and art area, interrelation between art processes, fundamental historical features of cultural development. They have sufficient theoretical knowledge and skills to interpret painting (art) examples, evaluate their quality, historical features, explain causes and trends of stylistic changes in painting, links with other art disciplines.
By building on knowledge and practice they are able to explain, define, depict, interpret works of art and theoretical attitudes. Speciality and subject knowledge is applied with regard to creative process, specificity of artistic tasks, prospective result of an implemented creative project. Knowledge and skills are applied as the basis for artistic search, enabling students to apply them purposefully and effectively, despite experimentation and risk, search for alternative artistic decisions. Abilities to analyze and classify features of artistic processes and objects, distinguish essential and minor features, compare separate features of different art phenomena are educated. Abilities to perceive and define links and context of different artistic and cultural phenomena, discover creative solutions of problem-oriented tasks, be aware of the field of comtemporary art processes.
The programme fosters motivated perception of subject content and practice, advantages of individual and collegial work, consistency of competences gained. The BA study programme develops the basics of competent and independent evaluation of painting art processes, fosters the ability to be aware of the field of art criticism, gives subject and humanitarian skills to present personal creation in public space, communicate with massmedia and society. It teaches to reasonably express one's evaluative stance, ground one's opinion.
Though the teaching language is Lithuanian, it is possible to study the whole programme or part of it in English and/or Russian.
