Aim

The aim of the second cycle programme in Photography and Media Art is to train a highly qualified artist-researcher capable of artistic research in the field of contemporary art and realizing a creative project using the most advanced media. The main focus of the programme is encouraging creative thinking in the realm of contemporary art with regard of the role of photography and media in the contemporary culture.

Study programme description

A Master of Photography and Media Art is an accomplished media artist with critical thinking skills and an advanced ability to reflect on media-related issues, search for creative solutions, and develop and implement them. Pursuing a Master’s degree involves an analysis of the context of a chosen artistic problem, in-depth study of theoretical sources, engaging in discussion, developing creative work, analysis of one’s own and fellow students’ works, and public presentation of one’s artistic practice. The final degree work is a synthesis of integrated theoretical knowledge and artistic practice consisting of a written research work and a creative project. The Masters will have perfected their learning and working skills, ready to pursue an artistic career in the local and international art scene, establish creative enterprises, teach in higher education institutions, and participate in third cycle art doctorate studies. Individuals who have completed programmes in media arts in the first cycle of studies or have considerable practical experience in the field are admitted to the Master’s programme in Photography and Media Art.

Occupational prospects for graduates

The holders of a Master’s degree in Photography and Media Art pursue an artistic career domestically and internationally. They may develop their individual creative practice, work in the higher education system, enrol in doctoral studies, work in creative industries (TV and film studios, advertising companies) and establish creative enterprises.
