Textile Art Media (LT, EN)

In her creative path Jūratė Petruškevičienė has tried diverse textile techniques: weaving, tying, crochet, patchwork, applique, embroidery and printing. One of her main achievements is being associated with the revival of fabric as a means of artistic expression in Lithuania and its impact on the young generation of artists. The artist’s creative fabric designs were often realized using printing and shibori techniques, which later she transferred onto various larger size works supplemented with cloque and shenyl processes. In using various techniques the artist uses natural dyes to colour the fabrics, intricately shapes and changes the surface of the fabric, creates complicated structures that, as a bold and strong brush stroke in painting, gives an interesting and refined aesthetic to a textile image. Her works with relief and undulated surfaces associatively or directly remind us of organic natural forms, thus it’s evident that the artist’s key theme is nature. J. Petruškevičienė analyses Lithuanian country, highlights our natural cultural heritage and reminds us of our history and its people’s past – art historian and critic, dr. Raimonda Simanaitienė

J. Petruškevičienė’s works are often presented in exhibitions and international symposiums in Lithuania and abroad (Sweden, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic, France, Italy, USA, Japan, Australia). In addition, she has also held solo exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad. The artist has won many different awards, amongst them – in 2013 SPAW-ERA ART (exhibition organizers’) award – a bronze statue at the 7th International Painting and Unique Textile Biennale in Poland. The artist actively participates in seminars and leads creative workshops. She is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and Surface Design Association.
