The Vilnius Academy of Arts community has lost its Vice-Rector for Studies, Dr Ieva Pleikienė (bidding farewell and funeral information added)

Dr Ieva Pleikienė, Vice-Rector for Studies, passed away after losing her battle with a serious illness. She was 52 years old.

"She was a truly dedicated person to the Academy, who worked sincerely and conscientiously for her Alma Mater. Her tireless energy was sufficient not only to ensure a smooth study process but she also represented the Academy with distinction and honour in various art and research events in Lithuania and abroad.  She cared about every single person in the VDA community. We will miss her immensely," says Prof. Ieva Skauronė, Rector of Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Ieva Pleikienė was an art historian whose research interests focused on Lithuanian art life and its complex processes in the second half of the 20th century. She researched Lithuanian art of the Soviet era, the environment and contexts of its creators. She was also interested in graphic art, its traditional and contemporary modes of creation, and marginal art phenomena. Her main motto was to reveal the phenomena and personalities she studied as authentically as possible.

Ieva Pleikienė was born in 1971 in Vilnius, studied at the Lazdynai 50th senior secondary school in Vilnius, lived and worked in Vilnius too. 

  • In 1995 she graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Master's degree in Art History.
  • Since 1995 she has been a researcher at the Institute of Art History, Vilnius Academy of Arts;
  • 1998-1999 she was a lecturer at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences;
  • 2003-2009 she lectured on morphology of art for art history students at Vilnius Academy of Arts;
  • In 2005 she defended her doctoral thesis in the field of art history at Vilnius Academy of Arts on the topic "Lithuanian Small Graphic Art. Forms of Artistic Communication by Post (1960-1990)" (research supervisor prof. dr. Raminta Jurėnaitė).
  • Since 2005 she was a member of the Lithuanian Society of Art Historians. 
  • 2005-2019 - she was the Head of the Doctoral Department of Vilnius Academy of Arts.
  • In 2016 she was granted the status of a creator of art.
  • Since 2019, she has been the Vice-Rector for Studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts.

The Vilnius Academy of Arts community extends its sincere condolences to the family members and relatives of Ieva Pleikienė.

A farewell to the Vice-Rector for Studies, Ieva Pleikiene, will be held at the funeral home "Nutrūkusi styga" on Wednesday, 29 May, 17.00-20.00 and Thursday, 30 May, 9.00-11.00. The Holy Mass will be held at St. Bernardine Church on Thursday, 30 May, at 12.00. Funeral service will take place at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday at the Suderve Catholic Cemetery, Ąžuolyno St 8.
