Povilas Kupčinskas | Resurrection of Mammoths

On June 13-22, Povilas Kupčinskas will exhibit his master's project “Resurrection of Mammoths” at the gallery “Akademija” (supervisor Prof. Kęstutis Vasiliūnas). Povilas Kupčinskas (also known under the artistic pseudonym Povas on Fire) is a young generation artist, a master's student at the Department of Graphic Art at Vilnius Academy of Arts, who creates large-format murals with a unique fire technique (better known as fumage), which he has been developing for over 5 years. The aim of the project “Resurrection of Mammoths” is to immortalize and resurrect mammoths that once lived in the current area of Vilnius. "Mammoth bones have been found in various places in Vilnius and Lithuania, so I want to raise them again in my drawings on the wall," says the artist. The murals are created using soot extracted from the fire and real ocher pigments, which were also used by ancient people.
