“Young Designer Prize” is a traditional annual competition that has been held by the Design Innovation Center of the Vilnius Academy of Arts since 2011. During the competition the best creations by fresh BA graduates of product, communication and fashion design programmes and by MA graduates design researchers are assessed.

The aim of the competition is to highlight and award the most prominent and most promising young designers, thus encouraging competitiveness and further improvement; also, to introduce their works to the representatives of businesses and industries as well as the general society, by this giving a boost to their professional career.

This year 62 works were submitted for the competition, and the largest portion of them competed in the category of communication design, for which 20 BA graduates submitted their creations. For the category of fashion design 19 young creators submitted their works, while in the product design category there were 17 applicants. This year, for the first time ever, MA graduates were also able to enter the competition. The works of this years’ 6 applicants were assessed in the design research category.

Most of the works (45) were submitted by the graduates of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, 17 - by the students of Vilnius College of Design.

The works of 15 nominees, among them the winners of both the main and additional prizes, were displayed at the Vilnius Academy of Arts exhibition space “Titanikas” until July 27, 2019. Visitors had an opportunity to get familiar with the works and their design contexts during the free weekly educational meet-ups. They were led by a professional “Vilnius Art Walk” guide.

The winners of each categories’ main and additional prizes were decided by the competition’s jury: PhD in Computer Vision, Entrepreneur Vladas Lašas, Head of Industrial Property Information Division at State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania Kristina Vilkienė, Multidisciplinary Creative and Art director Darius Kisielius, Art director and graphic designer Tadas Karpavičius, Fashion and costume designers Aleksandras Pogrebnojus and Egidijus Rainys, VAA DIC director Marius Urbanavičius.
