Meet the artist: July 17th (Tuesday), 2PM-6PM.

The exhibition will be led time to time by performative action changing or modifying the exposition.

The works of the exhibition are formed along the process of travel making and returning to certain places. During the past two years, Soisalon-Soininen has been working in Vilnius, Helsinki and Jerusalem especially focusing on the process of walking and weaving.

In Vilnius “Artifex” Textile Gallery Soisalon-Soininen will be showing a series of works mostly woven by wool, linen and other raw materials. The works are made while and after an exchange studies in Vilnius Art Academy, where the process got mainly started after the first (collected) steps in Helsinki. In Vilnius, among the citys’ old Jewish streets and by the river next to “Audykla” Laura collected and wove a certain amount of steps, that was later carried and added in Jerusalem and then eventually shared in Helsinki. From the gallery situated next to the first steps, the pieces will be closed and circled with the ones left and with the last one to detach.

Soisalon-Soininen’s working methods emphasizes the process and its digestive nature. During the formations of the processes, actions and logics, things and material components such as objects and writings stick along and become woven together. These subjects continue their paths through a mutual movements of different actors and events.Through the material and physical limitations one submits to the relationship of attaching and depending on the things happening on the ground and close to it.

Laura Soisalon-Soininen (b.1982) lives and works in Helsinki. The exhibition is a part of the Masters thesis of The Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki.
